Harold Edgar Bloyer, 86, died on March 15, 2016 in Bel Air, Maryland. He was born in 1929 in Clay Lick, Pennsylvania, and was raised in nearby Mercersburg, Pennsylvania. He maintained a love for this rural region of Pennsylvania for all of his life. His parents were John Earl and Nancy May (Carbaugh) Bloyer. He was predeceased by five siblings, John, Dorothy, Howard, Donald and Eugene. He was married for fifty years to Mary Estalene (Overcash), who died in 2002.
Harold was retired from the U.S. Army. He served in active duty in Japan, Korea and Vietnam and was awarded medals, including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. After leaving the Army, he worked for the federal Civil Service. He was also employed by the Harford County Liquor Control Board for many years. He was a skilled woodworker hobbyist. He had a special affinity for children and dogs.
Harold is survived by two sons: Brad (and wife, Jean), of Havre de Grace; Jeff, of Washington, DC; and a daughter, Tina, of Edgewood. He has three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a beloved companion; Janet Hamm, of Edgewood. He truly adored Janet's six grandchildren as if they were his own.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at McComas Funeral Home, P.A. in Abingdon, MD. Services will be held at McComas Funeral Home on Friday, March 18 at 1 p.m., then proceeding to graveside at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Joppa.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends remembrances be directed to the Presbury United Methodist Church Women's Auxiliary or to a veteran's organization or other charity of your choice.
