HAROLD BARTON TATTERSALL, (“SUT”) age 80, of Bel Air, Maryland died at the University of Maryland Medical Center on July 9, 2003. Born on the Hillgirt Farm in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late Harold and Ruth Singley Tattersall. He served his country as a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corp and flew in a P-61 Black Widow during WW II as a navigator. He attended Virginia Polytechnic Institute and the University of Delaware, graduating in 1949 with a Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering. He received his professional engineering license in 1956. Retiring in 1982, after 32 years of service, he worked for Bethlehem Steel as the Assistant Chief Engineer of Plant Engineering and Construction during the largest capital expansion program in the history of Sparrows Point. He became the consulting engineer for the Board of Engineers for reviewing contract proposals for the city of Baltimore for the former Mayor Donald Schaefer from 1982-1990.
Mr. Tattersall was a charter member of the Sparrows Point Country Club, a member of the Sparrows Point Trap and Skeet Club, the American Institute of Steel Engineers, and the Engineers Club of Sparrows Point. He was an active alumnus of the Kennett Square High School in Pennsylvania. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling, especially on safaris in Africa, the Amazon River, Australia and did mountain climbing in the Himalaya Mountains. He traveled all over the world. He also enjoyed music and played in the Army Band.
Mr. Tattersall is survived by his wife of 14 years, Nancy Lee Tattersall; one son, Richard Barton Tattersall of Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania; one step-son, Mark A. Weber of Lusby, Maryland; two step-daughters, Lauren L. Pine of Richmond, Virginia; Lee Ann Shull of Salisbury, Maryland; one brother, Richard L. Tattersall of Swansboro, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Richard C. Tattersall; Christopher D. Tattersall, both
of Fawn Grove, Pennsylvania; two step-granddaughters, Sara E. Pine; and Caitlin L. Pine, both of Richmond, Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Elaine Hellman Tattersall; one brother, Robert Tattersall; and one sister, Muriel Tattersall Churchman.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may to be made to Emmanuel Episcopal Church Building Fund, 303 North Main Street, Bel Air, Maryland 21014 or to the charity of their choice.
