Gordon L. Ely, 86, of Bel Air, MD passed away on June 14, 2015 at Lorien Riverside in Belcamp, MD. Born in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Francis Xavier Ely and Elizabeth Frances Reider Ely. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was a member of the Rosedale VFW. He worked as a Property Evaluator for the State of Maryland and prior to that, was a deputy sheriff. He was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Fullerton where he served as an usher. He enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing, shooting shuffleboard and was also a commercial crabber.
Mr. Ely is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marian "Peggy" V. (Burton) Ely; daughters, Darlene Bohlen of North East, Jo Ann Ely of Fawn Grove, PA and Laurie Olszewski of Catawissa, PA; sister, Gladys Moore of Parkville; grandchildren, Christina Day, Bruce Mitchell Jr., Sarah Lipphardt, Lynn Shannon and Daniel Olszewski; and great-grandchildren, Matthew and Regan Day, Nolan and Audrey Lipphardt. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Frank Ely.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Mitchell, Matthew Day, Joseph Olszewski, Scott Bohlen, Daniel Olszewski and Matt Day.
In lieu of flowers, those who desire may make a donation to the charity of their choice.
