GILBERT “GIL” V. WOOD, age 63, of Bel Air, died at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center on January 20, 2003. Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late John Sherman and Orphia Ovella Anderson Wood. He was a postal supervisor at the Edgewood Post Office. He had been a Pentecostal pastor for 10 years at the Church of Jesus Christ, Level, Maryland. He had been the past president of the Norrisville Recreation Council and was also a little league baseball coach for many years. He was active with the Boy Scouts in Delta, Pennsylvania with Troop 411. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He was the vice-president of the Board of Directors of the Harford American Legion Post 39, Bel Air, Maryland.
Mr. Wood is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joyce M. “Joy” Friskey Wood; two sons, Eric Vaughn Wood and his wife, Diane Wood, of Delta, Pennsylvania; Matthew Scott Wood of Bel Air; one daughter, Dawn M. Price of Aberdeen; three sisters, Henrietta Pattrick of Rising Sun; Phyllis P. Rasnake and her husband, Emory Rasnake , of Lynchburg, Virginia; Treva C. Faries of Darlington; five grandchildren, James Stephens; Jessica Stephens; Joy Nichole Price; Danielle Price; and Matthew Logan Wood. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, James M. Wood; T. Carlile Wood; four sisters, Evelyn DeBoe; Pauline V. Crouse; Zelda M. Atkinson; and Gaye E. Wood.
Pallbearers will be: Matthew S. Wood; Eric V. Wood; Brian Frantz; and James Stephens.
