Gertrude I. Heimiller Fassel, age 93, of Cockeysville, MD passed away on September 6, 2013 at Maryland Masonic Home in Cockeysville. Born in Baltimore City, MD, she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Ellen Blakely Heimiller and wife of the late John Kimble Fassel Jr. A Bel Air resident for over 40 years, she was a graduate of Eastern High School and was the longtime bookkeeper for Loane Brothers Awning Company in Baltimore. She was a long standing member of the Order of Eastern Star where in 1946 was initiated into Electa Chapter #22, served as Worthy Matron in 1964 and joined the Harford County Chapter #83 in 1989. The biggest thrill of her Eastern Star career was when, at the young age of 82, she was asked to serve as Grand Electra of the Grand Chapter of Maryland Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of Mt. Ararat #44, and was initiated into Bethel #1 in 1932 where she served as Honored Queen and Bethel Guardian. In May of 1947, she was installed as Grand Guardian of the Grand Guardian Council of Maryland, International Order of Job's Daughters. She was the youngest person to ever hold this position which was for more than 50 years. She was also a member for over 40 years of Christ Episcopal Church, loved to travel and was known for her "hug" cards that she would hand out to everyone.
Mrs. Fassel is survived by her goddaughter, Ann Joyner of Parkville; cousins, Genevieve Murray, Thomas Heimiller and wife, Sharon, and Kay Heimiller; and a host of other relatives and friends.
