Georgianna Mae Peters was born in Dembytown, Maryland on October 17, 1917 to Hannah Irene Gilbert and Theordore Edward Peters. She was the fourth of seven children. Georgianna knew the Lord from an early age and attended church regularly at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Joppa, Maryland. Leaving home during her formative years, Georgianna's secondary education took place in Baltimore, Maryland at Douglass H.S.
Determined to further her education, Georgianna then enrolled into Morgan State College where she excelled in athletics and obtained a physical education degree in 1938. Setting a standard for her children, Georgianna was the first in her family to complete college. She used to tell many stories about her induction and affiliation with the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Later, she attended Bank Street College in New York City and received her Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education.
In 1937, while working in Ocean City, Maryland she met Charles Aubrey Williams. From that first meeting it was said by Charles "She is going to be my future bride beyond a shadow of a doubt because the Lord has said so". The two became one in every sense of the word and were joined in holy matrimony on July 31st 1938. It was a blessed union of sixty-nine years which produced their two daughters; Ellen and Juanita.
In the fulfillment of God's plan, Georgianna devoted her life to Christian service and tirelessly worked with her husband who pastored The Love of God Church. Her love of children as a Sunday School Superintendent and her husband's outreach to the youth yielded a prosperous and fruitful ministry for many years. Her love of children naturally coincided with her professional life as a New York City public school teacher and director of educational programs for over thirty years. Georgianna loved the Lord with all her heart and served Him in many capacities.
Her devotion to home, husband, children, and grandchildren was an unconditional love that could be seen for all who passed through her door. She had excellent hospitality qualities and was a great cook that so many enjoyed. Her favorite delights for many were her sweet potato fluff and signature lemon cake.
Georgianna was ill for fifteen years with Alzheimers disease and was constantly and lovingly cared for by her huband, Charles. In August of 1996, Georgianna and Charles moved to Havre De Grace, Maryland into the home of her sister, Mary and brother-in-law, Melvin Tucker. Thereafter, she was admitted into the Citizen Care Center where she received devoted professional care. The family is grateful to Melvin and Mary Tucker who opened up their hearts through Christian love in a time of need and also to Citizen Care Nursing Staff for their service.
The Lord said it's time for Georgianna to take a rest and move up a little higher. "Well done thy good and faithful servant enter thou into the joys of my kingdom." Amen
Georgianna leaves here in God's care her husband; Charles, two daughters; Ellen Wright and Juanita Williams, her grandchildren; LeAndra Ross , Claude Jr., Troy, and Shantel Wright, her great-grand children; Kamara, Chandler-Marie, Eryn Ross, Donovan, Nia Wright and Jovani Fate along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.
We love you Georgianna and thank you for leaving us with heartfelt memories.
