George Shephard Morgan, 89, formerly of Abingdon died Tuesday, May 22, 2012 in Raleigh, NC. George was born in Torrington, CT August 29, 1922 to Thomas Curtis Morgan and Augustus Rosier Morgan. George served his country during WWII under the 14th Armored Division "Liberators" and after his discharge from the Army continued to travel the world working with the Department of the Army Chemical Corps from which he retired in January 1977 with over 31 years of service. During his time in the Corps, George pursued an active second career as a volunteer fire fighter and paramedic with the Abingdon Volunteer Fire Department which he joined in 1947. He served as president in 1949 and 1953-54 and was an active member for 38 years.
He is survived by his grandchildren Wendy Debesis Djang and Daniel Morgan Debesis and his son-in-law David Joseph Debesis. George is predeceased by his parents and siblings as well as his wife Jessie Weaver Morgan and his daughter Joyce Morgan Debesis.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at McComas Funeral Home, P.A. in Abingdon, MD from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Episcopal Church Cemetery, Abingdon, MD.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Abingdon Fire Company, 3306 Abingdon Road, Abingdon, MD 21009.
