George Addison Harkins, a resident of Bel Air, MD, died at the age of 81 on July 22, 2016 at Stella Maris Hospice in Timonium, MD. He was born in Baltimore, MD to Addison Norman Harkins and Effie Viola (Gunther) Harkins and was predeceased by his first wife Anne Rutledge Harkins. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a graduate of the University of Maryland. He worked for Verizon Services as an Internal Auditor Manager, was a pilot, an avid hunter, runner and cyclist. His big passion in life was flying and had been an instructor in Harford County for many years. He was a member of Bel Air Lions Club for 48 years and a volunteer at the Harford County Historical Society.
Survivors include his wife Mary Dalton Harkins; son Gregory Addison Harkins; daughters Lisa Harkins Maxwell (Edward), Stephanie Harkins Gill (Steven) and Amanda Elizabeth Harkins; stepchildren Thomas Murray Benisch (Katherine), John Patrick Benisch (Lena), Christopher Stefan Benisch (Jill) and Carole Benisch Kohl (James); and grandchildren Kathryn, Anne, Ned, Emerson, Todd, Henry, Ruby, Beau, MacKenzie, Julia and Daniel.
