GENE MOSS MOHLHENRICH, 80, died on March 29 of natural causes at his home in Bel Air, Md. Until his retirement, Mr. Mohlhenrich worked as a mechanical engineer with the Department of the Army at Aberdeen Proving Ground.
Born in Baltimore, Md., in 1926, he was the son of the late Eugene and Marjorie Moss Mohlhenrich. Mr. Mohlhenrich graduated from Towson High School in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946, with the 394th Field Artillery Battalion, stationed in Idar-Oberstein, Germany. In 1951, Mr. Mohlhenrich graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, the honorary engineering fraternity. Mr. Mohlhenrich lived in Harford County for 42 years and was a volunteer with the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was Secretary-Treasurer for his chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous and recently celebrated his 20th year of sobriety. His favorite place was Broad Creek, Md.
Mr. Mohlhenrich is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Gail Smith Mohlhenrich of Bel Air; son, Steven M. Mohlhenrich, and daughter-in-law, Lara M. Mohlhenrich, of Alexandria, Va.; daughter, Sharon L. Mohlhenrich of Riverdale Park, Md.; daughter, Robin M. Pifer, and son-in-law, Mark E. Pifer, of Burke, Va.; and three grandchildren, Ava G. Pifer of Burke, VA, Gretchen M. Mohlhenrich and Audrey C. Mohlhenrich both of Alexandria, VA. His grandchildren knew him as “Grandpa Duck.”
