Gary John Shumate, Jr.

Gary John Shumate, Jr., age 53, of Conowingo, Maryland passed away on May 19, 2023 at Christiana Health System in Newark, Delaware. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, he is the son of Grace (Lane) Gizzi and the late Gary John Shumate, Sr. He attended Aberdeen High School and worked for Comer Construction for 11 years until 2017. He loved his Harley, race cars and was an avid NASCAR fan, even building a race truck with his son.  He enjoyed woodworking, made birdhouses and was working on an airplane. Gary was a former member of Porter's Grove Baptist Church in Rising Sun and loved spending time with his grandchildren.    
   
In addition to his mother, Gary is survived by his wife of 35 years, Tammi (Sexton) Shumate; son, Kevin John Shumate; daughter, Holly Marie Shumate (and boyfriend, Joseph Moorefield); grandchildren, Parker Liam Oesterbo, Cayden Michael Shumate, Hazell Marie Moorefield, Joseph Moorefield; brothers, David Shumate (Lee) and Bryan Shumate (fiancée April); and mother-in-law, Ruth Sexton.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ruby Ann Shumate.
