Gary J. Shumate

GARY J. SHUMATE, age 59, of Conowingo, MD, formerly of Harford County, died on April 30, 2006 at his home. Born in Havre de Grace, MD, he was the son of the late John Arthur Shumate and Helen Elizabeth Johnson Lewis. He worked for the Maryland Paving and Trucking Company for 30 years. For the past five years, he operated the Conowingo Tire Shop with his son, David. He enjoyed fixing up old cars and attending races at the Lincoln Speedway in Hanover, PA. He loved bluegrass music. His family said that he loved attending Porter’s Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. Shumate is survived by his wife, Grace Lane Schumate, whom he married in 1966; three sons, Gary Shumate, Jr., and his wife, Tamie, of Bel Air, MD, David Shumate, and his wife, Debra, of Conowingo, MD and Bryan Shumate, and his wife, Jamie, of Abingdon, MD; one brother, Robert A. Shumate, and his wife, Evelyn, of Aberdeen, MD; one brother-in law, Gary C. Lane of Conowingo, MD; one sister-in-law, Betty Farewell of Auburndale, FL; and three grandchildren, Kevin Shumate and Holly Shumate, both of Bel Air, MD and Dylan Shumate of Conowingo, MD.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Ruby Ann Shumate.

Pallbearers will be Bert Turnmire, Daryl Arnold, David Shumate, Bryan Shumate, Gary Shumate, Jr., Chris Hawkins and Bobby Shumate.
