FRED DOUGLAS MONGAN, SR., age 67, of Belcamp, died in Upper Chesapeake Medical Center on March 11, 2005. Born in Hagerstown, Maryland, he was the son of the late Solie Martin and Helen Louise Bisser Mongan. He had retired from the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer First Class. He had served during the Vietnam Conflict. In 1976 he became a Roads and Highways Inspector for Baltimore City where he retired after 20 years. He was a member of the VFW and past member of the American Legion. He loved horse races, playing the slots, hunting, fishing, sports, and playing cards. His family said he was a very family oriented man, a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Mr. Mongan is survived by his wife of 48 years, Eleanor Louise Matthews Mongan; two sons, Fred Douglas Mongan, Jr. of Abingdon; Edward Scott Mongan of Sanford, Florida; four daughters, Joanie DeLuca of Newark, Delaware; Catherine Dermott of Bel Air; Kimberly Bryant of Dundalk; Cherie Chase of Abingdon; one brother, Robert Semler of Hagerstown; 15 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Jack Mongan and Solie Mongan.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers were family members.
