FRANK LaPORTE OLIVER, age 96, of Aberdeen, died at his residence on February 17, 2003. Born on October 19, 1906, in Creswell, Harford County, he was the son of the late Charles E. and Caroline Taylor Oliver. Mr. Oliver grew up on a 700 acre farm which is now known as Belcamp, Maryland. After leaving the farm, one of his first jobs was as part of a survey team during the construction of the Conowingo Dam in the late 1920’s. In the 1930’s, he ran a service station on Cold Spring Lane in Baltimore. He was drafted into the US Army in March of 1944 and was honorably discharged in September 1945. After leaving the Army, he began a long career selling life insurance working out of the Wilson Oliver Agency in Aberdeen founded by his brother, Charles M. Oliver.
He was a long time resident of the Forest Greens community near Perryman, and attended the St. George’s Episcopal Church in Perryman. He enjoyed boating on the Bay and was especially proud of his large extended family.
Mr. Oliver is survived by his wife, Ruby L. Preston Oliver; six children, Nancy Oliver of Havre de Grace; Lois Patterson Oliver Martz of Aberdeen; George F. Oliver of Aberdeen; Robert L. Oliver of Aberdeen; John P. Oliver of Aberdeen; Michael C. Clodfelter of St. Augustine, Florida; one sister, Virginia Rothwell of Perryman; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
