John Franklin Schofield Jr. (Frank), age 43, of Street, Maryland passed away on November 26, 2023, after a 14-month battle with the most aggressive brain cancer, Glioblastoma.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Frank was the loving husband of Chandra (Hyde) Schofield for 10 years, and a supportive father to his four children: sons, Austin Schofield, and Hunter Schofield; daughter, Felicity Schofield, and stepdaughter, Bella Copeland. Frank was the only son of Linda (Cross) Hakanson, and the late John Franklin Schofield Sr., stepson of David Hakanson, and younger brother to Tina (Schofield) Tolson. Frank’s family was the center of his life.
Frank had a calm and cool demeanor, and lived an abundant life guided by honor, service, and family.
He graduated from Calvert Hall in 1998, and joined the U.S. Marines Corps, where he served all over the world for 6 years.
After leaving the Marines, he began working at Johns Hopkins Hospital in the Facilities Engineering Department as a mechanic. He worked tirelessly to keep the hospital’s many buildings functioning properly. He quickly rose through the ranks, with his last promotion being Assistant Director, in recognition of his breadth of knowledge, strong work ethic, and his leadership abilities. He received his bachelor’s degree in business at UMGC while working. During his 18 years at Johns Hopkins, Frank’s contributions were countless. He was the epitome of hard work and dedication and was loved and admired by so many. As a result of his countless contributions, he was awarded the first ever Johns Hopkins Medicine Leadership Excellence Award. He was proud to serve Hopkins and was wonderfully supported by his Hopkins family.
In his spare time, Frank loved the outdoors and taking care of the hundreds of trees on his property. He also enjoyed fishing, crabbing, and hanging out with family and friends, always with a Natural Light.
In addition to his wife, children, mother, stepfather and sister, Frank is also survived by several aunts and uncles, many cousins and nieces and nephews, and several loving in-laws.
Memorial contributions may be made to Glioblastoma Research (Brain Tumor Network, and The Johns Hopkins Neuro-Oncology Department).
The family will be celebrating Frank’s life on several occasions in the coming months. His Hopkins family is honoring him in early December with a ceremony on the campus. A celebration of life will be held for Frank at the VFW on Ebenezer Road early in the new year (date forthcoming). Frank’s remains will be used to help rebuild the dwindling natural reef systems in Florida where he will be interred in an Eternal Reef Memorial in June 2024.
