FRANK M. GARRITY, SR. , of Joppatowne, MD, died on January 29, 2003 at Stella Maris Nursing Home in Timonium, MD. The former McKeesport resident was 85.

Born in McKeesport, PA, he was the son of the late Raymond Garrity and Sara Dietrich Garrity.

Mr. Garrity was a more that 40 year member of the Steelworkers International and was retired from Teledyne Firth Sterling, where he was a senior sizer control engineer. He owned and operated along with his family Frank M. Garrity’s Dairy Queen of McKeesport and worked for Sam’s Superior Restaurant for many years.

He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0361 and a life member of the Knights of Columbus #955 in McKeesport, PA. He was appointed to the McKeesport Housing Authority by the late Governor of Pennsylvania David L. Lawrence and served for 10 years. He was a member of St. Peters church, active as an usher and choir member and a graduate of the 1935 class of St. Peter High School, where he met his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Wilson Garrity.

Upon retirement, Mr. Garrity and his wife moved to Port Orange, Florida, where they lived 10 years before moving to Joppatowne, MD to be closer to family. He was an artist and craftsman and made hundreds of rosaries for family, friends and missions throughout the world. He attended Our Lady of Hope Church in Port Orange, Florida where he served as a Eucharistic minister. He was a member of Holy Spirit Church in Joppatowne.

Mr. Garrity is survived by his wife, Betty of Joppatowne, MD and his children, Mary Elizabeth Boario of Anchorage, AK; Sara G. Manning of Reisterstown, MD; Frank M. Garrity, Jr. of Pittsburgh, PA; Rita C. Garrity of Edgewood, MD; Hugh W. Garrity of Fairbanks, AK; Rosemary Allen of Nenana, AK; John P. Garrity of Fairbanks, AK; Raymond Garrity of Homer, AK; Anne Marie Garrity of Joppa, MD; Michael Garrity of Honolulu, HI. Other survivors include 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Savilla Garrity Brennan, a brother, Patrick Garrity, and an infant daughter, Marcella Garrity.

Family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made in Mr. Garrity’s name at the Stella Maris Nursing Home, 2300 Dulaney Valley Road, Timonium, MD 21093.
