Bel Air

Francis Eugene Schaedel, age 74, of Bel Air, Maryland passed away on July 24, 2024. Frank, as he was affectionately called, was the son of William and Ann (Wandle) Schaedel and the devoted husband of Elizabeth “Jane” (Martin) Schaedel. Frank grew up in Newark, New Jersey and graduated from Vailsburg High School in 1968. He continued his education at Essex County College where he acquired not only an education but lifelong friends through his fraternity. Frank and Jane married in 1972 and spent 51 happy years together. They settled in Basking Ridge, New Jersey and lived there for over 40 years before moving to Maryland. He worked for Verizon for over thirty years, retiring in 2003. After retirement, he became a bus driver, a job he thoroughly enjoyed. He drove school children as well as older adults for an assisted living facility. He thoroughly enjoyed helping others and also spent some time as a volunteer firefighter with the Basking Ridge Volunteer Fire Department.

Frank enjoyed travelling, fishing, cooking, grilling and was known for his famous steak and chili recipes. Most notably, he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family. He was the loving father to Brian Schaedel and his wife Marylisa, and grandfather to Alisa and Brynn Schaedel, brother to Marianne (Jim) Sheridan, William (Judy) Schaedel, Elaine (Pat) O’Carroll, Judy (John) Cooney, Barbara Burke, Carolyn (Dan) Schaedel-Wagner, and preceded in death by sister Rosemarie (Jim) Heck. He was also the fun-loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. The family will never forget his kind-hearted sentiments, his notable laugh and his signature phrase of always being “simply marvelous.” We will be forever grateful for the fond memories we hold in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Boulevard, Staten Island, NY 10306.

The family will be hosting a visitation on Saturday, September 28, at 10 am followed by a celebration of life. Memorial Mass beginning at 11:00 am at St. Ignatius Catholic Church 533 East Jarrettsville Road, Forest Hill, Maryland 21050
