Frances Mary Smith

Frances (Fran) Mary Smith, age 84, of Jarrettsville, Maryland passed away on Monday, January 23, 2023 at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Born on February 14th (Valentines’ Day) 1938 in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of Ernest and Frances (Cirri) Beck and wife of the late Barrett (Boyd) Smith. Fran grew up in Baltimore City in its heyday when the streets and alleys were clean and the front marble steps were scrubbed until they were spic and span.

In her adult years, Fran was the co-owner of Boyd Construction where she helped run the company and performed all the administrative duties. In addition, she was a Real Estate agent for Long & Foster in Joppa, MD for over 15 years. In her 30’s and 40’s, she loved gardening and taking the family camping with her relatives. In her 50’s and 60’s, she loved living on the water and going out on her and Boyd’s Sea Ray Cabin Cruiser and duckpin bowling. In her late 60’s and early 70’s, she loved getting her children and grandchildren all together at Ocean City (OC) for a week during the summer. In her later years, Fran enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved going to church, reading novels, playing Bingo, playing Scrabble, watching Reality TV shows, the Hallmark Channel and various crime shows.

Fran was a devout Catholic that attended St. Stephens (Bradshaw, MD) and the Holy Spirit Catholic Church (Joppa, MD). She was a kind, giving person that always looked out for everyone in the entire family and helped where she could.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Linda Williams (husband – Glenn); sons, Bryan Smith (fiancée JoEllen Berczik) and Kevin Smith; brothers, Ernest Beck and Michael Beck; grandchildren, Katie Badders, Annie Williams, Amanda Smith, Nicole Schmidt, Forrest Smith, Michael Roberts, Ryan Smith, Tyler Smith and Mackenzie Smith; and 11 great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Jones and Catherine Moore, brother, Charles Beck and grandchild Jessie Williams, and first husband Joseph Corr.
