Frances "Fran" Marie Hayden, age 89, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on March 18, 2025, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late James and Marie (Davis) Silk and the beloved wife of the late Howard Hayden. Fran was also predeceased by her second husband, Bruce Garrett.

Fran was born during the Great Depression and developed a deep love and appreciation for her country. She graduated from Patterson High School in 1953 and went on to have a full, dedicated life.

Fran worked as a Legal Secretary for the Circuit Court at the Baltimore City Courthouse, serving as the Master of the Court’s secretary for 26 years before retiring in 1996. Her retirement allowed her to spend time with her adored grandchildren, whom she spoiled and cherished. Fran had a special way of making the holidays magical, whether it was waking up early to stand in line for their favorite toys or baking her famous cookies to share with her loved ones. She had a particular love for cooking, especially her crab soup and crab cakes, which became family favorites.

A devoted fan of the Baltimore Ravens, Fran brought joy and energy to every game she watched. Most of all, Fran's love for her family was immeasurable. She had a giving spirit and was always ready to lend a hand or offer a kind word. Her warm smile and loving nature will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Fran is survived by her children, grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts.

Frances is survived by her son, James M. (Wanli)Smith; daughters, Cynthia J. (Kenneth) Thompson, and Sherry C. Smith; grandchildren, Ryan Weidman, David Thompson, Daniel Thompson, Jordan Amass, and Amber Smith.
