Finley P. Ray

July 5, 1927 — November 11, 2007

FINLEY P. RAY, age 80, formerly of Conowingo, MD, died on November 11, 2007 at the Veteran’s Affairs BRECC Center, Baltimore, MD. Born in Tazewell, VA, he was the son of the late Leonard and Carrie Vance Ray and husband, for 38 years, of the late Barbara Jean Andrews Ray. He moved to Edgewood, Maryland after retiring from the Air Force in 1967 where he lived until 1985 when he moved to Cecil County. He was a member of the American Legion Post 135, Perryville, Md. and VFW Post 8185 Port Deposit, Md.

From 1943-1947 Mr. Ray served in the U.S. Army as an MP in the Philippines. During his 21 year career as an Airman, he traveled the globe, stationed at remote locations such as Ft. Greely, Alaska, Iceland, Greenland and Great Britain where met his wife, Barbara Andrews. A decorated war veteran of the U.S. Air Force, he was also a federal civilian employee working as a crane operator for the U.S. Coast Guard Yard, Curtis Bay, Maryland for 19 years. He enjoyed fishing, watching Orioles games, NASCAR and reading western novels, and had a wit that kept friends and loved ones laughing.

Mr. Ray is survived by four daughters, Julie A. Singleton of Port Deposit, MD, Carrie S. Ray-Murray of Perryville, MD, Karen D. Thomas of Peach Bottom, PA and Jennifer J. Ray, of Perryville, MD; one sister, Mecca Mitchell of Abingdon, MD; fourteen grandchildren, William B. Burrall of NM, Tiffany Rossbach of Westminster, MD, Scott Ray Kellogg, III of Lakeview MI, Erin J. Comeau of FL, Stephanie Ogino of Oxford, PA, Barbara Barnes of Decatur, IL, Ricky Barnes of Elkton, MD, Zachary and Jake Thomas of Lancaster Co., PA, Dylan, Colin, and Ethan Woodie of Perryville, Brock Chism of Perryville, Luis Camacho of Florida, nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Baxter H. Ray and 3 sisters, Mildred Young, Ovella and Dorothy Ray.
