EULA ANNICE HARVEY, known to all as Ga-Ga, died Wednesday, August 4, 2004 at her Street home after a long illness. She was 81. She was preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, George R. Harvey.
Mrs. Harvey was a Harford County resident for nearly 60 years. Born in 1923 and raised in Sparta, North Carolina, she was the last surviving sibling of 21 children born to Rufus and Phrona (Caudill) Billings. Her mother was the only child of nine in her family to survive a diphtheria epidemic that swept the Sparta area in the 1870=s.
Mrs. Harvey came to Harford County in the early 1940=s for work at the old Bata shoe factory in Belcamp. She lived in the on-site hotel reserved for factory workers and met her husband, an Army sergeant who was stationed at the nearby Aberdeen Proving Ground, during that time.
Mrs. Harvey spent her married life as a homemaker and mother to her two surviving daughters, Barbara Watson of Darlington and Mazie Alley of Alamo, Texas. She was known as a good listener and enjoyed sharing coffee with unexpected visitors. Before her illness, Mrs. Harvey also enjoyed working in her yard, tending her flower gardens and mounting a terrific Christmas lights display each season.
In addition to her daughters, Mrs. Harvey is also survived by five grandchildren, Tina Rigsby of Darlington; David Alley of West Des Moines, Iowa; Robert Alley of Odessa, Texas; Tammy Murphy of Bethesda, Maryland; Teresa Watson of Danville, Pennsylvania; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers served during the ceremony. They were: David Alley, Chris Murphy, Dennis Rigsby, Roger Morey, Chuck Billings, Buddy Hall, and Brian Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Harford Hospice, 8003 Corporate Drive, Suite G, Baltimore, Maryland 21236.
