Ethel Mae Phillips Whitlock, age 97, a cherished resident of Darlington, Maryland, passed away on May 28, 2024, in Elkton, Maryland. Ethel was born in Boone, North Carolina, to the late Milo and Alice (Barnes) Woodring.
Ethel's life was one of love, resilience, and service. She attended Calvary Chapel of Delta, where her faith in Jesus was a guiding light in her life. Ethel's journey was marked by profound love and commitment. She was happily married to Alvin Phillips, her first husband, for 36 years until his passing. Later, she found love again with her second husband, Willis Wade Whitlock, sharing 27 beautiful years until his passing.
Ethel was known for her entrepreneurial spirit and talent. For 35 years, she owned and operated KurlyKorner, a beloved beauty salon in Darlington where she not only styled hair but also nurtured friendships and connections. Her skilled hands also graced the sewing needle, as she was an excellent seamstress. She not only enjoyed making dresses for her granddaughters, lovingly crafted her daughters' wedding dresses, but also loved to crochet and made countless blankets leaving behind treasured memories for generations to come.
Beyond her professional endeavors, Ethel's heart overflowed with a passion for life. She found solace and joy in all forms of gardening, nurturing blooms that mirrored her own vibrant spirit. Traveling was another of her great loves, and she embraced each adventure with an open heart and an infectious enthusiasm. Yet, her greatest joy came from spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whose laughter brought light to her days.
Ethel is survived by her three daughters, two stepsons,fourteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren,one sister, and one brother.
In addition to her parents, first husband, and second husband, Ethel was preceded in death by a son, and four siblings.
