ETHEL E. BAXTER, age 81, of Abingdon, MD, died on January 8, 2007 at Good Samaritan Hospital, Baltimore, MD. Born in New Park, PA, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Lewis Henry Jiles Sr. and the late Blanche Amelia Nolan Jiles, and wife of the late Wendell Glasgow Baxter Sr. A longtime Harford county resident, she was a lifelong member of Fawn AME Zion Church in Fawn Grove, PA. She was a member of the Solidarity Women’s Club-Baltimore, as well as the Kirkwood Owls bowling league where she was the longtime secretary. Her family said she enjoyed working with ceramics and raising her children.
Mrs. Baxter is survived by one son, Wendell G. Baxter Jr. of Darlington, MD; three daughters, Betty H. Baxter of Abingdon, MD, Gwendolyn C. Baxter of Baltimore, MD, and Roxann U. Baxter of Middle River; two brothers, William B. Jiles Sr. of Havre de Grace, MD, and Lewis H. Jiles Jr. of Laurel, MD; one son-in-law, Brent Jackson of Aberdeen, MD; three brothers-in-law, Sheldon Murray of York, PA, Melvin Akins of New Park, PA, and Albert Baxter of York, PA; two daughters-in-law, Freda Bea Walker of Aberdeen, MD, and Evelyn V. Espenshade of California; three sisters-in-law, Naomi Baxter of York, PA, Joyce McGrady of York, PA, and Anna Baxter of York, PA; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Donald L. Baxter and a daughter, Burnadean W. Jackson.
Pallbearers will be Charles Baxter, Dwon Baxter, Damien Baxter, George Akins, William Jiles, Lewis Jiles, Ralph Greene, and Louis Jiles.
