Esther M. Matelli

Esther M. Matelli, age 86, of Darlington, Maryland passed away on July 21, 2020 at her home. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, she was the daughter of Elmer Watson and Martha Taylor and wife of the late Arthur F Matelli. Esther left Louisiana at an early age to be with her sisters, Hazel and Betty, in Rockaway Beach NY. She spent most of her teenage years there and upon her marriage to Arthur in 1954 she moved to Flushing N Y where she raised her two children, enjoyed her wonderful 60 year marriage with Arthur and began her successful career as a special education teacher and supervisor After her retirement she moved to Hewlett NY before coming to Maryland for her final years. She loved holidays and spending time with her family. She particularly enjoyed traveling and playing pinochle on the beach with her friends.

Esther is survived by her son, Stephen Matelli of Darlington and his wife, Lillian; and granddaughter, Grace H. Matelli.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by daughter, Jennifer M. Matelli, brothers, Elmer and Robert T. Phillips; and sisters, Hazel Ruffino and Elizabeth Cholakis.

She also had many nieces, nephews and close friends whom she loved dearly.
