Erna Freeman Sanger, age 92, of Bel Air, MD, formerly of Ormond Beach, FL, passed away on December 22, 2011 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Schlesien, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Ernestine Lausch Ertel and wife of the late 1st Sgt. Robert J. Freeman (US Army Ret) and Richard Sanger. She attended nursing school in Breslau, Schlesien and served to bring comfort and relief to wounded German soldiers during WWII. After the war, she met an American soldier and subsequently moved to the United States where she was an LPN for many years. An avid gardener, she loved flowers and had a flair for interior decorating. She was a committed Christian and a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Florida.
Mrs. Sanger is survived by her daughters, Tina Zimmerman of Churchville, MD and Mittie Freeman Pedraza of Colorado Springs, CO; three grandchildren, Rachel, Lisa, and Brian and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by four siblings.
