EMIL H. MYERS SR., age 85, of Bel Air, MD, died February 21, 2007 at Madonna Heritage, Jarretsville, MD. He was the husband of the late Helen Wolff Myers, who died June 30, 1999. Born in Edgewood, MD at the family home, he was the son of the late Frederick H. and Irene Hanson Myers.
Mr. Myers went to grammar school on Edgewood Arsenal, graduating in 1934; high school in Bel Air, graduating in 1938 and college in Baltimore at the YMCA College of Commerce, graduating in 1942 with a BBA Degree, majoring in accounting. He worked for Samuel Kirk & Son, Inc., where he became Assistant Treasurer and Vice President of Manufacturing. In addition to managing the sterling silver plant in Baltimore, he started a pewter manufacturing plant in Salisbury, MD, making both flatware and holloware. The Kirk Co. then merged with the Stieff Co. to become the Kirk Stieff Co. at which time all Kirk facilities were closed and combined at the Stieff Co. Mr. Myers retired as Vice President of the Kirk Stieff Co. after 35 years in 1981. He was a member of the American Society for Metals for 25 years.
He was an avid boater, built three boats and was active in the forming of Otter Point Boat Club and the Trojan Harbor Boat Club and was a member of Bush River Yacht Club.
After retiring, he and his wife traveled throughout the United States and Canada by motor home for nine years.
In 1991, he went to work with Harford County government, Department of Public Works as a Special Projects Manager working from the water department in Abingdon, where he worked until 2006.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, he was predeceased by a brother, Dr. Norman F. Myers of Havre de Grace, MD. He is survived by two sons, Emil H. Myers II and his wife, Karen, of Hooksett, NH and Dale F. Myers and his wife, Patty, of Bel Air, MD; four grandchildren, Emil Hanson Myers, III of Clay, NY, Michael C. Myers of Lake Mary, FL, Dawn Michele Miller of Street, MD, and Mary Lisa Schaedel of Street, MD; and six great grandchildren.
