ELZY D. STANLEY, SR., 84, of Edgewood, died at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center on June 4, 2003. Born in Kimball, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Robert Riley and Arvillia Workman Stanley. He had been a coal miner in Virginia and West Virginia. He was a member of Edgewood Assembly of God Church.
Mr. Stanley is survived by his wife of nine years, Lillian Marie Hubbard Stanley, five sons, Elzy D. Stanley, Jr. of Aberdeen, Johnny A. Stanley of Edgewood, Larry E. Stanley of Edgewood, Jerry L. Stanley, Sr., of Aberdeen, and D. Wayne Stanley, Sr., of Aberdeen; two daughters, Charlotte Ann Holcomb of Radcliff, Kentucky and Lorene Mae Kregar of Edgewood; a step-son, Coy N. Stanley, Jr. of Concord, North Carolina; a step-daughter, Anita E. Copenhaver of Dellsow, West Virginia; a brother, Robert H. Stanley of Milton, Delaware; two sisters, Florence E. Clark of Bluefield, West Virginia and Geneva M. Moore, Bluefield, Virginia (not West Virginia); and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Bertie M. Royal Stanley, a son, Robert N. Stanley, and a daughter, Lillian L. Stanley.
Pallbearers will be Douglas W. Stanley, Elzy “Chip” Stanley, III, Johnathan “John” Stanley, Jerry Lee Stanley, Jr., John Bradley, John Ayre and Coy N. Stanley, Jr.
