ELZA COLE CHAPPELL, age 98, of Forest Hill, MD, died at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Bel Air, MD on March 31, 2004. She passed away one day shy of her 99th birthday. Born in Grayson, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Layfayette Anderson and Susan Francis Moxley Caudle and the wife of 30 years of the late Edgar Lee Chappell. Raised in Galax, Virginia, she was a graduate of Radford College formerly Radford State Teachers College, Radford, Virginia. She had taught in a one room school house from 1925 to 1932 and had worked into her 70’s. A resident of Harford County, Maryland for 62 years, she was a devout Jehovah’s Witness at the Bel Air/Fallston Kingdom Hall and loved gardening.
Mrs. Chappell is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roy L. and Cassandra C. Chappell of Forest Hill, MD; three grandchildren, Christina M. Chappell of Forest Hill, MD, Stephen L. Chappell of Longmont, CO, Kimberley A. Chappell of Forest Hill, MD; and numerous nephews and nieces. She was the last of her nine brothers and sisters.
Pallbearers will be: Rudolph Carroll, Stephen Chappell, James Caudle and several members of her congregation.
