Ellen Barbara Rasnake, age 89, of Joppa, MD, died on April 24, 2011 at her home. Born in 1922 in Dickensen County, VA, she was one of five children of the late David Henry Tiller and Maggie Powers Tiller. She lived as a young woman in Virginia and attended Haysi High School where she played basketball. She was the Post Master for the Dudy, Virginia post office and also built her own house there. She married Troy O'Quinn, in 1940 after which time they moved to Pineville, KY where Troy was killed on a logging job. She later married James Oak Rasnake and moved to Maryland. They made their home in Maryland and lived there until Oak passed away November 7, 1979. She worked for Bendix for many years and also operated her own upholstery shop. She remained there until her death. She enjoyed mowing grass, gardening and working outside in her flowers. She liked walking every morning with friends and neighbors, and did so until her health wouldn't let her keep it up. The last few years of her life, she was cared for at home by her family. This was a promise made and kept. She always said if she died before she was 100, to tell everyone she went before her time.
Mrs. Rasnake is survived by her daughters, Wanda Sue O'Quinn Hess of Honaker, VA and Emma Evonne O'Quinn Allen of Joppa, MD; sister, Esther Dingus of Bristol, VA; five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; lots of nieces and nephews; and stepdaughter, Loretta Martin.
Pallbearers will be Vickie Sadler Nunez, Rodney James Sadler, Troy Lee Sadler, Jeff Harris, Brandon Scott Harris, Walter Lee Sadler, and James Loyd Sadler.
Heather Lynn Harris will be in charge of the music which will be Vince Gill "Go Rest High On The Mountain" and Brad Paisley/Dolly Parton "Don't Cry For Me Down Here".
We will miss her love and caring ways. May all who knew her let her live on in their hearts and memories.
