Elizabeth Poteet Hicks died Nov.22 2011 at home surrounded by her animals and family. She was born on August 7, 1931 in Baltimore, MD.
Liz, as she known to her friends, was a collector.
A collector of animals; she enjoyed raising her sheep as well as her cats, dogs, and other animals; she happily gave a home to.
A collector of plants; she enjoyed gardening and rescued house plants with the same commitment she had for animals,
A collector of books; she loved reading books of all genres and took care to preserve them and shelve them for future enjoyment.
A collector of art; she brought back keepsakes from her travels around the world, though her favorite art pieces were always those created by her family members.
A collector of friends; she was a loyal, steadfast friend to all generations. She gave her time to her church, as well as a variety of other organizations.
Liz was one of the nine original founders of the Harford Day School. She worked painting walls and arranging furniture only days before it opened and then nearly every year to the present in some capacity in the Library. She became the self appointed archivist for the school as she felt strongly about preserving the past for future generations. She naturally extended this passion to the Harford County Historical Society, where she volunteered for many years. She was a Garden Club member as well as the Clan Montgomery, the Highland Society and the Preservation of Historical Houses.
She was the widow of William Paul Hicks II and was mother to William Paul Hicks III, Elizabeth Rogers Hicks and Grandmother to Jeremy and Joshua Hicks-Kachik, and Lucy, Evan, and Neil Hicks.
Donations are welcome in her honor to the Harford Day School and Harford Friends School in lieu of flower.
