Elizabeth M. Monks, daughter of the late Harry A. Wakeland and Annie E. Chesney Wakeland, native of Churchville whose family has been in the area for several generations, died May 23, 2013 at Fairfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Crownsville, MD. Elizabeth was a graduate of Strayers Business College and worked several years for the Baltimore Gas and Electric Company, and later at Aberdeen Proving Ground. As a life-long member of the Churchville Presbyterian Church, she was very engaged in the activities of the Church. She was also active in community volunteer work. She was a member of the Harford County Chapter of the Historical Society, the Harford County Genealogy Society, and the Harford County Chapter of the Maryland Ornithological Society. Elizabeth was the wife of the late J. Hubert Monks and mother of the late Charles H. Monks. She is survived by a daughter, Rachel A. Monks and son-in-law John F. Sherman of Annapolis, Maryland; sister-in-law Marybeth Matson of York, Pennsylvania; cousins Robin Ann Chesney Hopkins of Bel Air, Maryland, Virginia Chesney Ambrose of Statesville, South Carolina, and Charlotte Cossaboon of Landenberg, Pennsylvania. She is predeceased by a brother-in-law Ross Monks of Bel Air, Maryland.
