ELIZABETH BROOKES GEORGE, age 90, of Wilmington, Delaware, died in Wilmington Hospital on February 8, 2003. Born in Bel Air, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Roy and Hannah T. Munnikhyusen Brookes. She went to Emmorton Grammar School and then Bel Air High School. She earned a B.S. Degree from the University of Delaware, College of Home Economics in 1934. She worked as a registered dietician at the Women’s Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and then for the Hercules Powder Company Research Center during WW II. She married Peter J. George in 1938 at St. Mary’s Church. After her husband was drafted into the Army during WW II,she returned to live with her parents at Forest Grove Farm. Her daughter was born at that time. Her husband was transferred to Edgewood and they lived on Post until his discharge from the Army in 1946. During her brother’s illness,she returned to Bel Air weekly to help him cope with his poor health. These weekly visits gave her opportunity to become reacquainted with former friends. In 1993 eighty acres of the family farm located on Emmorton Road were transferred to the County. The property is currently being used for park land. She was a member of the 4-H Club, The Harford County Grange, and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.
Mrs. George is survived by her husband, Peter J. George; and one daughter, Hannah T.G. Koziski and her husband, Michael J. Koziski of Wilmington, Delaware. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Thomas R. Brookes, Jr. and an infant daughter.
