Eleanore ''Bobbie'' Lee Kunkel

May 30, 1927 — May 12, 2009

Eleanore "Bobbie" Lee Kunkel, wife of 60 years of Gerald F. Kunkel of Bel Air, MD. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, Bobbie passed at her home surrounded by family on Tuesday, May 12, 2009.

Bobbie, 81 years old, a Harford County native, and daughter of the late Ruth Walsh and Norman J. Lee of Perryman, attended Perryman Public, St. Stephen School, Notre Dame of Maryland Prep, and was a graduate of Western Maryland College.

Bobbie was very active in civic and charitable organizations including the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, St. Margaret's Mother's Club, and John Carroll School Association Board.

She was very involved in local government and county organizations, where she was one of the founders of the Harford County Farm Fair. She expanded her interest into recreation when she organized the Churchville Recreation Council. From this she was appointed to the Policy Making Board of Harford County Department of Parks and Recreation. She continued on this board as a member for 25 years and as chairman for 8 years. She was the organizer of the volunteer group CRM Branch of Maryland Parks and Recreation. In 1973, she served on the executive board of the Maryland Parks and Recreation Association.

She also was appointed by Harford County to help establish a purpose for and organize what is now the Liriodendron Foundation. She served in various capacities with this foundation until 1995. She was a member of the Evergreen Garden Club since the 1950's. At various times Mrs. Kunkel served on numerous boards including Maryland Health Systems Agency.

She was very active in her children's lives and was no stranger to the sports sideline, or helping her children in their various personal and business endeavors. She was always involved with her grandchildren and very supportive in their lives. She was a very active and supportive mother and will be greatly missed.

Mrs. Kunkel is survived by six children and their spouses; Sarah Kunkel Filkins of Bel Air, MD, Julia Kunkel Morrison of Wilmington, NC and her husband John Morrison, John N. Kunkel III of Fallston, MD and his wife Ellen Kunkel, Gerald F. Kunkel Jr. of Darlington, MD and his wife Paula Kunkel, Thomas M. W. Kunkel of Bel Air, MD and Mary Michael Kunkel Rosling of Bel Air, MD and her husband Shawn Rosling. She is also survived by 13 loving grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to St. Margaret Catholic Church, 141 Hickory Ave., Bel Air, MD 21014 or John Carroll High School, 703 E. Churchville Road, Bel Air, MD 21014.
