ELDA L. LAABS, age 89, of Abingdon, died in Mariner Health of Bel Air on September 15, 2003. Born in Chickasaw County, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Frederick William and Caroline Tank Laabs. Ms. Laabs began working at Edgewood Arsenal in 1948 and continued there as a clerical worker and secretary until her retirement in 1978. She received numerous awards for her efficiency and outstanding performance. Ms. Laabs will be remembered as a warm and loving individual with a gentle love for her family and friends. She loved her dogs Teddy and Jenny and liked to travel. She spent time knitting and sewing often making clothes for the nieces’ dolls. With the Taylor family, she spent hours boating on Bush River and the Chesapeake Bay. She was a very active member of Cokesbury Untied Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
Ms. Laabs is survived by one brother, Lyle Laabs and his wife, Mavis of Waverly, Iowa. Also survived by a dear friend, Mary Taylor of Abingdon; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by one brother, Harry Laabs; two sisters, Irma Hill; and Lorraine Mueller.
