Beloved by her family and cherished by her community, Elaine T. Harper, née Wong, age 90, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on April 3, 2024, at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, Maryland.
Elaine was born in Jamaica and brought the warmth and vibrancy of her culture with her wherever she went. She was the daughter of Charles Kim Fung Wong and Ethlyn Elizabeth Wong, née Thomas and was married to the late Edward R. Harper. Elaine's faith was a cornerstone of her life; as a devoted Catholic, she found solace and strength in her daily prayers and was a faithful attendee of St. Margaret's Catholic Church.
Known for her generous spirit and unwavering love for her family and friends, Elaine touched countless lives with her kindness and compassion. She had a passion for learning and could often be found immersed in a good book or enjoying a game of Mahjong on her iPad. Elaine's culinary talents were legendary; her mastery of Jamaican and Chinese cuisine brought joy to many gatherings, especially during the holidays when she delighted in baking Jamaican Christmas cakes and Easter buns.
Elaine had a heart of gold and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. She generously supported causes close to her heart, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Catholic charities, the Salvation Army, and many others. Elaine's love for fashion was evident in her impeccable style, and she adorned herself with an array of beautiful jewelry.
A beacon of warmth and hospitality, Elaine's home was always open to family and friends. She took great pride in maintaining a clean and welcoming environment, reflecting her genuine and empathetic personality. Her presence will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Elaine is survived by her loving sons, Edward (Sarah) E. Harper III and Howard (Charmaine) Harper; grandsons, Edward C. Harper IV, Anthony Harper and his significant other Marshandra, Brandon Harper and his fiancée Amanda; great-grandson, Isaiah Harper; sisters, Norma Dunlop, née Wong and Shelia Chin-Fatt, née Wong; goddaughter/niece Joann Martinez; also survived by many other nieces, nephews, and cousins .
In addition to her husband, Elaine was preceded in death by her only granddaughter, Jillian Harper, and her siblings, Sybil McPherson, Albert Wong, Loyd Wong, Monica Wong, Keith Wong, and Ferdinand Wong.
