Elaine Gardiner Decker, a retired registered nurse, died October 28, 2015 at the Senator Bob Hooper House in Forest Hill, MD. She was 87.
Mrs. Decker was a school nurse with the Baltimore County Board of Education for 22 years until she retired in 1990.
Born in Alfred, NY, the former Elaine Gardiner received her nurses training with the Cadet Nurse Program of WWII receiving her R.N. in 1948 and her B.S. in Nursing from Alfred University in 1949. She worked in hospitals in New York City, Milwaukee and Baltimore before her marriage in 1953. She was a member of the Joppatowne Christian Church. She enjoyed traveling and reading and was a volunteer at Franklin Square Hospital for over 15 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Elaine Decker Dorsett (with husband John Thomas Sr.) of Annapolis; and a son, "Ted" Edward L. Decker III (with wife Laurie Jayne) of Joppa; a sister, Thelma Mix of New York; and grandchildren, John Thomas Dorsett Jr., Christopher Patrick Decker, Melanie Kaye Mathesz and Jennifer Michelle Decker. She was predeceased by her husband Edward in 2009 and a son, John Gardiner Decker in 1976 and her brother, Theodore Gardiner in 1995.
