Edwin Francis Lynch, 89, passed away peacefully on Wednesday December 13, in the kind care of Brightview Assisted Living.
A lifelong resident of Fallston, MD, Francis is lovingly remembered by his wife of sixty-seven years, Martha Spry Lynch , and extended family. After graduation from University of Maryland, and earning a Masters Degree from Towson State, Francis enjoyed a career as a science teacher and Science Department Chairman in the Baltimore County school system. Interest in biology gave him a love of nature. He raised and fostered animals, creating the zoomobile in the 1960s, and taking his collection of Maryland reptiles to schools for the Maryland Academy of Science. At home he was an active member of the parish of St. Mark in Fallston. He began serving there as an altar boy, and continued throughout his life, acting as lector, serving on countless committees, the parish council, and was a founding member the religious education committee. In 2012, Mr. Lynch was named a Harford County Living Treasure, and his interview can be viewed at the Bel Air Library.
An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed gardening, raising livestock on his small farm, and horse racing. After retirement, Francis played tennis twice a week with a group of rowdy friends until age 88. With Martha, he enjoyed entertaining, dancing, and being in charge of a family event known as the Lynch Olympics. Francis could be found playing games of gin rummy and pitch whenever an opponent was ready.
Mr. Lynch is survived by his wife, Martha S. Lynch and his children, Diana (David) Sedney, Terry (Ron) DePasquale, Gail (Richard) Fletcher, Kevin (Michelle) Lynch, Victoria (Scott) Jordan, Lisa (Chris) Vadas; grandchildren, Gwen, Anna, Christina, Benjamin, Daniel, Jocelyn, Katie, Abigail, Kerry, Haley, Christopher, Lauren, Jennifer, Julia, Claire, James, and Natasha; and 13 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to St. Mark Catholic Church, 2407 Laurel Brook Rd, Fallston, MD 21047.
