Edward J. Kaufman departed for his final journey on August 15, in Columbia, Maryland, after a brief illness. He was born in Baltimore on October 20, 1927, and lived his entire life in central Maryland. Ed proudly served his country in the United Stated Army during World War II. After discharge, he began his civilian career at the Glenn L. Martin Company in Baltimore. After several years, Ed moved his family to Harford County to begin a career at Edgewood Arsenal and Aberdeen Proving Ground, where he did groundbreaking work in nuclear physics. In retirement, Ed set his sights on traveling. He was proud to share with friends and family, stories, photographs, and treasures from the many trips he took. By plane, ship, train, and bicycle, Ed's wonderful sense of adventure took him to every continent on Earth.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister Vincent and Margaret, his beloved wife, Shirley (nee Stecker), and daughter, Judy. He is survived by his daughters, Janet Myers of Florida and Lynne Levin of Ellicott City, grandsons Hanson and Michael Myers, granddaughter Lindsay Kaufman, great-granddaughters Kayla and Cassidy Myers, and great-grandsons Steven Burroughs and Hunter Everhart. He is also survived by step-grandchildren, Ross and Emily Levin.
Whether you knew him as "Pop, "Edward", or "Fast Eddie", he was a true gentlemen and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
A Wake will follow the burial at 1:30 p.m. at Wyndham Baltimore Peabody Court Hotel, 612 Cathedral St. in Baltimore.
