On February 17, 2012 Edward J. Hutchins Sr. passed from this world in the comfort of his home and surrounded by his devoted family, with the same dignity and fortitude he exhibited during more than 90 years of life. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Blanche Elizabeth; his sons Edward, Steven and Larry; his daughters-in-law Marlene, Cindy and Katie, his grandchildren: Molly, Nicholas, Cory and Tyler, and his great-grandchild Aiden.
After proudly serving his country during WWII as an artilleryman in the 95th Infantry Division, "The Iron Men of Metz", he established a dry cleaning business and expanded it over several decades to include seven locations. A long-time resident of Havre de Grace, he was named Citizen of the Year in 1970. As a long serving President of the Little League, he negotiated a 99-year lease and was instrumental in the creation and construction of a permanent home for Havre de Grace baseball. In retirement he played a leading role in the construction of the Havre de Grace Community Center which was donated to the City.
