EDWARD DONALD REILLY, SR., of Bel Air, died January 19, 2004. He was 77.
Born in Baltimore, he was the son of the late Francis Sylvester and Catherine Anna Rooney Reilly.
Mr. Reilly retired in 1981 after 36 years of employment with the Maryland Transit Authority. Since 1972, he served as executive secretary of the Authority. Since 1976, he served as Administrator at the Authority’s Toll Facilities Administration. During this period, he had been largely responsible for such major accomplishments as the completion of the Francis Scott Key Bridge, the parallel span of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and many other improvements to Maryland’s toll facilities.
After retirement, from 1985-1992, Mr. Reilly served on the General Professional Services Selection Board appointed by the Governor of Maryland. He was a professional engineer and licensed land surveyor. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force
Mr. Reilly was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 46 years, Gloria L. Blackwell Reilly. He is survived by five children, E. Donald Reilly, Jr. of Miami, Florida; Timothy J. Reilly of Austin, Texas; Gary K. Reilly of Bel Air; Scott J. Reilly of Bel Air; and M. Joy Raines of Bel Air; one brother, Francis Reilly of Owings Mills; one sister, Joy Gassinger of Hollywood, Florida; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
