EDWARD B. DAVIS, SR., age 94, of Forest Hill died at Rock Spring Village on December 5, 2003. Born March 28, 1909 in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania and moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as an infant, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary Elizabeth Gothee Davis, and the husband for 66 years of the late M. Thelma Winchell Davis, who died in May 2003. He had a twin brother and was one of seven children.
Mr. Davis worked for Central Penn National Bank in Philadelphia, PA for over 47 years. At the time of his retirement in June of 1973 he was an assistant vice-president and manager of their largest branch office in Philadelphia. During his banking career, he was active in the South Philadelphia Realty Board, American Institute of Banking, Bank Officers Club of Philadelphia, and was chairman of the Colonial District Boy Scouts of America.
Sports were an important part of his life. He played baseball on many teams in the Philadelphia area for over 20 years. He was an avid bowler having bowled in the same league for over 50 consecutive years and also a weekly golfer.
He and his wife moved to an assisted living facility in Forest Hill, MD in 1998 after having lived in Havertown, PA for almost 59 years.
Mr. Davis is survived by one son, Edward B. Davis, Jr. and his wife, Priscilla of Fallston; two grandchildren, Polly McGinnis of Bel Air; Brent Davis of Bel Air; and two great-grandsons, Connor and Aidan McGinnis both of Bel Air.
Pallbearers were: Ed Davis, Brent Davis, Rusty McGinnis, Harold L. Hubble, Kenneth Tipton, and Paul Ostheimer.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Oak Grove Baptist Church Living Christmas Tree Fund, 2106 Churchville Road, Bel Air, MD 21015.
