Edna Louise Harris was born on January 29, 1944 to the late Paul Daniel Harris and Georgianna Irene Harris Peaker in Creswell, Maryland. She peacefully departed this life on June 5, 2018 at her home in Bel Air, Maryland.
A lifetime resident of Harford County, Edna received her education at Central Consolidated School in Hickory, Maryland where she graduated in 1962. She then attended Bowie State Teachers College in Bowie, Maryland. While attending Central Consolidated, Edna was best known for her athletic ability. She was on the girls basketball team at both Central and Bowie. Basketball was one of her favorite sports, although she enjoyed watching all sports. Some of her nephews can attest to the fact of how rising to the challenge one day, she stepped out of her car and made a perfect shot into the basket from over 30 feet away and then rode off leaving them with their mouths open in disbelief.
Edna was a faithful member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Abingdon, Maryland. She joined John Wesley at an early age under the leadership of Rev. Thomas Reed. As a youth, she became a member of the John Wesley Choir. As a member of the choir she will always be remembered for her spiritually uplifting solos, “Sign Me Up and The Rough Side of the Mountain”. While attending John Wesley, Edna was a member of the Youth Building Fund Workers where she helped raise money to build the new church. She than served on the Trustee Board and The Pastor Parish Committee. She also served on the Kitchen Committee for many years where her fried chicken surpassed all others.
Edna was first employed at the Aberdeen Proving Ground Dry Cleaners. She then became an employee at Patti Cleaners in Joppatowne, Maryland where she worked for many years until they closed. She then became a diligent worker for Cello/Sherwin Williams Distribution Company in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Her last job was with the Board of Education as an employee at C. Milton Wright High School in Bel Air, Maryland from which she retired.
Edna enjoyed many things in life but her greatest joy came from her “great faith” and her “love of God and family.” She was a beloved sister and loving and devoted mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her well. She was a no nonsense single mother who raised her three sons with pride.
Edna will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her.
She leaves to mourn, three sons, Gerald L. Harris, twin sons Darryl V. Harris and Dale M. Harris and wife Kathryn; grandchildren, Brittany Harris, Darryl Harris Jr., Jordan Mangones, Shakeisha Harris, Haley Harris, Dale Harris Jr., Olivia Harris, Kayla Harclerode and Justin Harclerode; great-grandchildren, Nazir Gore, Rylan Webster, Jaiden Harris Pinilla, Daylin Harris and Jaxson Stoecker; and siblings, Richard Harris and wife Shirley, Phillip Harris and wife Alma, Mildred Norton, Frances Lee and husband Earl, Calvin Harris and wife Lena, Anna Davis, Helen Waldon, Janice Demby, and Vera Davis.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings Paul Harris, Doris Bailey and John Harris.
