Edmund Thomas, 95, of Joppa, MD formerly of Dundalk, passed away peacefully at his home in Joppa on June 10, 2016. He was born and raised in Buckingham County, VA the son of a tobacco farmer. He was the last in his family of 12. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, enlisting in 1939, and was a member of the 70th Tank Battalion that served in all the major battles of WWII under the command of U.S. General George S. Patton. Mr. Thomas was the recipient of many Army medals but his most cherished was the Purple Heart for being wounded in one of the longest, bloodiest single battles of WWII in the Huertgen Forest of Germany in November 1944. The 70th made a difference in the long, hard struggle to preserve freedom from Nazi tyranny. He was always proud that he fought for his country and proudly displayed the American flag.
After retiring from Bethlehem Steel, he was an icon at the North Point indoor flea market for many years where he enjoyed people and serving coffee and donuts to all his friends. He was a Master Mason and was a life member of AF&AM Patapsco Lodge #183.
He is survived by his three daughters Patricia Kasin and husband Thomas, Donna Schnepf and Deborah Tripp and husband John; seven grandchildren and their families, and dear friends and neighbors Donald and Vicki Smith. He was predeceased by his parents Don Edward Thomas and Esther Ann (Everett) Thomas; his wife Dorothy I. Thomas; and his daughter Margaret Ann Lannen.
