EDMUND FRANCIS SHANAHAN, Jr., age 75, of Bel Air, MD, died on March 11, 2008. Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Edmund Francis Shanahan, Sr., and the late Margaret Kelly Shanahan. After graduating from Temple University, he settled in Bel Air and called Harford County home for 49 years with his family. He worked in several diverse engineering fields in aeronautics, with Martin Marietta of Middle River for 17 years, with A.A.I. aircraft defense systems in Cockeysville and also in commercial manufacturing with United Container, formerly Koppers of Glen Arm, for 21 years. He was a member of St. Margaret Catholic Church and the United Container Machinery Alumni Club and the Temple University Alumni Association. Other interests included building computers, gardening, reading, and model trains.
Mr. Shanahan is survived by his wife of 50 years, Helen E. Lapchak Shanahan, a sister, Jean Hartgroves, and husband William of Charlestown, WV; four children, Edmund F. Shanahan III and his wife Sylvia L., of Hampton, VA; Judith Ann Bollinger and her husband Stuart John, of Bel Air, MD; Marie Helen Shanahan of Belcamp, MD; and Lisa Ann Shanahan of Bel Air, MD; and seven grandchildren, Morgan E. Shanahan, Edmund F. Shanahan IV, and Jennifer M. Diaz, of Hampton, VA; Michael L. Diaz of Raleigh, NC; and Ian Stuart Bollinger, Christopher Michael Bollinger, and Daniel A. Boyer, all of Bel Air, MD.
