EDITH VIRGINIA SMITH, age 82, of Street, died at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center on June 1, 2003. Born in Baltimore, she was the daughter of the late Edward Hamilton and Edith Florence McFadden Robinson, and the wife of the late Francis George Smith. A cosmetologist, she owned and operated her own beauty shop. Her first husband, Frank Cassell, Jr. was killed during the Invasion of Normandy during WW II. She moved to Harford County in 1928 where she lived for the rest of her life. For 43 years she owned and operated with her husband Francis G. Smith, the Edgeley Grove Farm in Benson. She helped with the dairy as well as the agricultural side and kept the books. She enjoyed gardening, refinishing furniture and needlework.
Mrs. Smith is survived by one son, Williams Hayes Smith of Bel Air; one daughter, Edith S. Graefe of Street; four step-sons, F. Barry Smith of Street; George L. Smith, II of Fallston; James Dennis Smith of Ellicott City; Robert Edward Smith of Anaheim, California; one step-daughter, Mary Baysinger of Palm City, Florida; one brother, Edward H. Robinson, Jr. of Cockeysville; one sister, Helen Beckering of Easton, Maryland; 16 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was predeceased by two brothers, F. Donald Robinson; Thomas Robinson; and one sister, Louise Robinson.
