Edith S. Smith, age 94, of Bel Air, MD passed away on June 9, 2018 at Brightview Assisted Living in Bel Air, MD. Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late George J. and Florence M. (Kelner) Scheid and wife of the late F. Phillip Smith. During World War II, she was a member of the USO where she met her husband to whom she was married for 67 years before his death in 2013. She was a longtime volunteer at Upper Chesapeake Health System starting in 1969 until March 2018. She was a longtime member of the Ladies Auxillary American Legion Bel Air Post 39, a 71 year member of the Mineola Chapter - Order of the Eastern Star, and was a lifetime member of the Wally Bynum Caravan Club International. She was a member of Emmanuel Episcopal Church where she participated in the Holy Folders and worked in the Trago House Thrift Shop. She enjoyed crocheting comfort blankets for children in need, quilting, and spending time with her great-grandchildren in Maryland and Oklahoma.
Survivors include her daughter, Wendy S. Long; son-in-law, William D. Long, III; grandchildren, Donald (Jennifer Lynn) Long IV, Rev. Andrew (Katie Burgoon) Philip Long, and three additional grandchildren; and great-grandchildren, Brayden, Sophie, and Theo Long and six additional great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Craig Smith.
Services will be officiated by The Rev. Canon Dr. Mark Gatza and Rev. Andrew P. Long officiating.
