Edith G. Mitchell, age 87, of Churchville, MD, passed away on March 16, 2012 at Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, MD. Born in Havre de Grace, MD, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Mitchell Gorrell and Cordelia Amanda Mitchell and wife of the late John Winfield Mitchell. She attended Watson Business School in Baltimore and worked at Aberdeen Proving Ground in the 1940's. Later in life, she served as the bookkeeper at Walter G. Coale Farm Equipment Company in Churchville and retired after nearly 20 years. She was a faithful member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Churchville all her life, and her true faith in God helped sustain her throughout her 87 years, especially during the last few years of declining health.
Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her daughters, Margaret M. Smith and husband, Edward E., of Frankford, DE, and Judith M. Matthews and husband, Doug, of Stewartstown, PA; sister-in-law, Clara Crytser of Bel Air, MD; grandson, Adam Winfield Weir, of Berlin, MD; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her granddaughter, Amanda Elizabeth Weir, and her beloved cat, Maggie.
Pallbearers were Adam Weir, Robert Crytser, Don Matthews, Bryon Matthews, Brad Milton and Tom Harman. Honorary pallbearers were Tom Adams, Bill Jones, Elmer Bevans, Ken Radke and Neil Cullum.
