Edith Constance Shelley

May 21, 1932 — November 29, 2015

Edith Constance Shelley, age 83, of Edgewood, MD passed away on November 29, 2015 at Lorien Riverside in Belcamp, MD. Born in Gunpowder, MD, she was the daughter of the late Henry Turner and Edith Viola Turner and wife of the late Horace G. Shelley Sr.

Mrs. Shelley, or Edy affectionately called by family and friends graduated from Bel Air Colored High School. She was known as an outstanding athlete excelling in Track and Field. Known for her winning smile and grace. Mrs. Shelley, gave her life to Christ at an early age and was a lifelong member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Joppa (Dembytown), Maryland. She served as an Usher and Trustee to the church until her health failed due to a long battle with Alzheimer's. In addition Mrs. Shelley was a long standing member and Past President of the Ladies Auxiliary, VFW Post 6054. Mrs. Shelley, was the Food Service Manager at AAFES snack bar on the Edgewood Arsenal Post for over 30 years until her retirement in 1998, (specialty Fried Chicken and Potato salad). She dedicated her life to the service of God and the love of her family.

Mrs. Shelley is survived by her sister, Catherine Hamilton of Bronx, NY; her sons, Ronald Shelley (Margaret) of Baltimore and Horace G. Shelley III (Barbara) of Littlestown, PA; daughters, Denise Sneed, of Edgewood and Lynette Shelley of Abingdon; 19 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren and her BFF Harriet Lester. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her son, Russell Leroy Peaco Jr., daughters Diane L. Williams, Janet F. McElrath and Yvette Shelley; brothers Maris, Thomas and James Turner and sisters June Spiers and Ruth Hoke.
The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers, condolences and donations in this time of sorrow.
