Edith Ann Brown (née Beer), a resident of Glen Meadows Senior Retirement Community, passed away on September 12th, 2023 in Glen Arm, Maryland. She was 93. Born in Milford, IN, she was the daughter of Henry and Alice Beer and was the middle child in a family of nine children.
Edith completed her degrees in English and Library Sciences from Ball State University in Muncie, IN. While in college, she met her future husband, John E. Brown with whom she raised four children. In 1970, the family moved to Churchville, MD and she became an active lifelong member of Christ our King Presbyterian Church in Bel Air, MD, serving as both elder and deacon.
Edith returned briefly to Indiana as a Volunteer in Mission, before moving to Bel Air in 1984. At that time, she started a household services company, Sunshine Services, for which she served as President until her retirement in 1996. In this capacity, she provided jobs and services to many Harford County residents. In addition, she attained her Maryland real estate’s licensure, leading to her co-ownership of the assisted living residence Sunshine Acres in Sparks, MD. After her retirement, Edith lovingly serving guests at her Be My Guest Bed and Breakfast in Forest Hill, MD.
Precious memories of Mrs. Brown are kept by three children, seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Edith always kept herself busy and active. She was passionate about interior decorating, painting, gardening, traveling, and dancing. She also loved being with her grandchildren, playing her cello, baking, and was a wonderful hostess. In recent years she completed her memoirs.
A memorial service will be held this Thursday, September 21st at 11 am at Christ Our King Presbyterian Church, 10 Lexington Road in Bel Air, MD 21014. A private family interment will follow the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Christ Our King Presbyterian Church fund for single mothers.
