Edgar "Jim" Ryan, age 75, of Abingdon, MD, died on July 10, 2009 at Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson, MD. Born in Joppa, MD, he was the son of the late William Carroll and Anna Agusta Bensor Ryan. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he retired from Edgewood Arsenal after 41 years, where he was a field technician. He attended Trinity Lutheran Church and was a great mentor for young people. He loved animals and enjoyed helping other people. He was active in food drives for the Boys & Girls Club and the Salvation Army in Harford County. A member of the Izaak Walton League, he was active in natural conservation. He cared for senior citizens for many years, supplying meals which he had cooked for them. He also delivered firewood and fixed things for them, making sure they got to their doctor's appointments. He referred to this as his "Golden Age Club". An avid wood cutter, he also enjoyed hunting and being outdoors.
Mr. Ryan is survived by his wife of 49 years, Helen E. Ryan of Abingdon, MD; brothers, William C. Ryan Jr. and Donald R. Ryan, both of Bel Air, MD; his sister, Helen Mary Ryan of Abingdon, MD and numerous other men and women whose lives he touched in a positive fashion.
Pall Bearers are David Ryan, Jim Ryan, Mike Ryan, Kevin Shetterly, Mark Ward, Leroy Stitz, Pat Gunther and Eddie Deptish. Honorary Pall Bearers are William Knoedler, Mark Alan Anderson, William Lyons and Raymond Watts.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Izaak Walton League of America, Harford County Chapter, 3610 Woodsdale Road, Abingdon, MD 21009.
