DUANE COOMES, of Bel Air, MD, died on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at his home. He was 80. Born in Ennice, NC, he was the son of the late Emmett and Oma Coomes. He was a veteran of the US Navy who served on the USS Weaver in the Pacific Theater during WWII. He worked for A&P Supermarkets and 7 Eleven Food Stores. He was an avid golfer and loved flying an airplane in his younger days. In later years, he enjoyed riding his lawn mower and spending time at home watching his favorite television programs. His love of animals was evidenced by his many canine companions throughout the years.
Mr. Coomes is survived by a son, Steve A. Coomes of Bel Air, MD; a daughter, Beverley S. David of Bel Air, MD; a daughter-in-law, Carolyn L. Coomes of Bel Air, MD; one sister, Emma L. Hockenbrock of Bel Air, MD; six grandchildren, Bryan C. Coomes and Timothy A.L. Coomes, both of Stewartstown, PA, R. Michael Coomes of Bel Air, MD, Jeff Whitt of White Hall, MD, and Paula Jacob and Connie Raimond, both of Bel Air, MD; 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, June E. Haga Coomes; a son, Rick D. Coomes and three brothers, Laine Coomes, Gene Coomes and Don Coomes.
Pallbearers were Bryan C. Coomes, Timothy A.L. Coomes, R. Michael Coomes, Dan Haga, Gary Coomes and Harold Haga.
